Starting today, I'm launching something completely new for me: my first fantasy story, told as a weekly multimedia series.
Every Friday for the next nine weeks, we'll walk together through a world where sensitivity is tested, gentleness is challenged, and connection battles division. But first, I need to be honest about why this story exists.
I've been feeling anxious about the state of our world. Watching the news fills me with a heaviness that feels overwhelming. Reading headlines makes me cranky (hateful, even) and I don't like the person I'm becoming when I let that darkness in. I find myself struggling to look at all this division and fear with love, which is who I've always tried to be.
So I made a choice. Instead of letting the world's current state harden my heart, I'm bringing these conflicts with me on a journey. If you want to join me, we'll have an adventure wrapped in literature, music, and beautiful illustrations.
🦊 Lu is the story that emerged from my choice to be kind, despite the darker thoughts that come first. She's a mystical creature navigating a world that has forgotten how to be gentle—a Keeper of Thresholds whose land has been shattered by forces that profit from division and fear. Now she must choose: harden herself to survive, or find a way to remain true to her nature while everything around her crumbles.
If you've ever felt like you were born with one layer of skin missing, if you've wondered whether your sensitivity is a gift or a curse, this story is for you.
This is my first venture into fantasy, but it's not really about magic. It's about what it means to be a sensitive soul in turbulent times. It's about the courage it takes to stay open when everything tells you to close, and discovering that sometimes the most radical act is simply refusing to let the world make you cruel.
What to expect
🦊 Lu's Story will unfold over nine chapters, each one a step deeper into her journey of loss, discovery, and hope. Every chapter will include original music and artwork: a complete multimedia experience that brings Lu's world to life.
I'll be publishing new chapters every Friday, giving us both time to sit with each part of Lu's journey before moving forward. This story deals with displacement, the attack on empathy, and the systematic destruction of beauty. But ultimately, it's about choosing love in a world that's forgotten how to connect.
A world between worlds
Lu exists in the Between-Space, caught between the mystical realm of her birth and the harsh reality where she now finds herself. She has the body of a fox with powerful dragon wings that shimmer with aurora colors. Where she steps, luminescent flowers bloom, but they fade faster in this new world, wilting under skeptical gazes and harsh lights.
She's searching for her scattered family, but more than that, she's searching for proof that gentleness can survive in sharp places. That her sensitivity isn't a weakness but a different kind of strength.
Meet Lu though music
As I imagined Lu's world and brought her characters to life through illustration, melodies began emerging alongside the visuals. I found myself writing lyrics that capture the essence of the characters, their hopes and heartbreaks.
I've transformed these lyrics into full songs using production tools. They're not perfect: I'm not a musician, not even close. Some words get lost in the mix, but they carry the soul of the story in ways that words on a page cannot.
